Capital Campaign

Dear Friends and Family of Sophia Academy,
Great things continue to happen at our school as we enter our thirteenth year! After experiencing steady growth, we moved into our renovated building in 2007 and continued our vision with plans to build a multipurpose facility including a Gym/Auditorium/Chapel space. Many miracles were made possible by the families here and outside community as well. Exceeding our first capital campaign goal with $2.6 million in funding, we completed the project under-budget and on-time, and collected two large challenge grants. We know that your efforts have contributed greatly to our mutual desire to do as much as we possibly can for the personalized instruction and spiritual development needs of the children we serve.
With a $2.4 million goal for this new building, we have been blessed with a $500,000 challenge grant from A Friend of Sophia Academy, to be claimed when we have raised the balance of the goal. This challenge inspired another one from an individual for $50,000!
This full-size (21,000 square feet) gymnasium/cafeteria/auditorium has already benefited all of the school communities by housing sports teams, theatrical productions, and weekly chapel gatherings, in addition to school-wide events that require a large number of seating. The state-of-the-art space has given extraordinary experiences to deserving students who might not have these opportunities in larger school settings. With the addition of this building, there is now access to a facility that will comfortably accommodate the gathering of up to 600 constituents at one time. With trophies in both sports and drama led by stellar faculty, the school has accomplished in a few short years what takes decades for others. Rental income from club teams and summer programs is also contributing to this project. Classroom space on the mezzanine level will be ready for build-out in our plans to provide a fully-functioning high school one day. Our plan is to pay for this building before that is possible.
In order for the school to provide the many additional enrichment activities that are planned, we prayerfully request that you participate in “The Dream Continues” Capital Campaign to collect this tremendous challenge grant by 2012. The pride we feel in blessing our families, staff and friends with “more” is in knowing we have been good shepherds in God’s kingdom. Furthermore, we know that our combined legacy is one of seeing current students excel now and preparing for those in the years to come.
On behalf of the Board, let me express our appreciation for the opportunity to serve such a wonderful school community.
Sincerely,
Joan Tolliver
